Friday Five – A Day In the Life

Who has to thumbs and was traveling for work again this week?  This girl!  I flew down to Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon and daylight savings had caught up to me…it was brutal.  I was supposed to not get back home until after 11 last night, but thankfully, I was able to get on an earlier flight and get home to see my Charlotte before bedtime.

Friday Five

So today for the Friday Five,  Courtney, Mar, and Cynthia wanted to hear about my day!  Typically I have pretty boring days, but figured a day of travel might be more interesting than the norm…so without further ado, here is my “Day in the Life” in pictures!

My day started out well, with a good run and a healthy breakfast.

I had to laugh when I saw the back of my shirt.  The gym at the hotel was really humid, even when I turned the air down to 62 I was still sweating up a storm.  When I saw the back of my shirt, my back sweat made a happy face.  I decided to do a 4 mile progressive tempo run, but because I kept stopping and starting, I can’t really call it a tempo.   My legs just didn’t want to do it.  I finished the last mile strong though, and that made it a good run.

This hotel provided a free breakfast buffet.  I went with oatmeal and added some brown sugar, raisins, dried cranberries, almonds, and walnuts.  I added some fresh pineapple,  also got some protein with two hard boiled eggs.  Don’t forget the coffee!  (The coffee actually kinda sucked, so I stopped at the Starbucks on my way to the office.)

My work day was pretty boring.  My daughter had sent me to Atlanta with her Sofia doll, so I took a picture of Sofia working at a computer.

Since we were slow and they didn’t need me down there as late as they originally thought, I got an earlier flight home.  My worksite is an hour away from the airport though without traffic, so I had to book it out of there.  Of course I hit traffic.  Then there was construction on the way to rental car return.  And I could tell the airport was generally busy, which meant that the security line would be awful, and I was right.

I was in the security line at about 3:30 and my flight was leaving at 4:20.  That doesn’t sound too bad, except that this line is insanely long and after I get through that I have to take a shuttle to my terminal.  I got through the line at about 3:55 and got to my shuttle, with only enough time to grab a quick snack before boarding.  I just grabbed something that seemed healthy and then realized it was a bag full of chocolate.  Worse things have happened.

Then I settled into my seat and pulled out my iPad to read a new book I downloaded.


Nothing like a little Jim Gaffigan to make you look like a crazy person giggling to yourself.  “When I talk about food, I like to think I’m like one of those sportscasters who used to play professionally. I’m like the Ray Lewis or Terry Bradshaw of eating. I’m like the Tony Siragusa of eating. Well, that’s a little redundant.” 

Okay so that was more than five things, but it was a long day.  I forgot to take pictures of my lunch, but if you are ever in the Buford, GA area,  stop by Rico’s World Kitchen – it was amazing!  I had fried green tomatoes and a Chicken Cuban that was out of this world!

Thankfully, I don’t have any more travel on my calendar until April.  So that’s it!  That was my day yesterday.  I came home to a house that missed me and I got lots of snuggles and kisses and lots of “Mommy I was missing you!”  “I’m so glad you’re home”.  Can’t beat that!

The Friday Five – The Love Edition

Happy almost Valentine’s Day!  We don’t do much with the holiday these days other than exchange cards and eat a few candies.  How can I resist a conversation heart?  How?

Friday Five

I could have taken this so many places, but I kept it simple.  I’m going to list a few things that I love.

1. This girl – Look at that face! I just love being her mom. She is smart, super silly, and just delightful. There is nothing better in this world than one of her hugs.  (I wrote this prior to the bedtime debacle I experienced last night)

2. This guy – we’ve been married for going on 9 years, and have been together for 12. It hasn’t always been easy, but I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else. He’s the peas to my carrots, the flip to my flop, and knows how to make me laugh.

3. Running – Why did I wait so long? So many things to say about running, but what could I say that I haven’t said before? I love being a runner!

4. Cooking – I love to eat.  I also like creating delicious food.  One thing I think I like about cooking, is that by cooking a meal for my family or friends, it’s a way of providing and nourishing…something a physical gift just can’t do.  Plus, if I’m cooking, I know what I’m putting in my body…like these little beauties I made the other night.

5. Working – I work in human resources, and while it may sound strange, I love working and I actually kinda love my job. Every job or company is going to have those things that annoy and bother you, and I have had lots of those. But…I also have a lot of work / life balance and autonomy with my day to day projects.  I get to be creative in my job, not in an artsy way, but in a problem solving way.  Plus I work with a great group of people.

Aaaah Friday!

So this week was a little hectic. When I travel for work, I’m always a little off. I got home really late on Wednesday night. After weather delayed my flight an hour, I then had to deal with construction traffic on the beltway to get home. This is how I spent my time at the airport:

I got home at about 11:30. And as I always do, I woke my daughter up for hugs and snuggles. She was excited to see me and equally excited to go back to bed.

Thursday was just a lot of catch up at work. No time to work out and I just didn’t feel like it anyway.

This morning I got up, took a walk around the block, and then did some strength training in my living room. Nothing too exciting because tomorrow is my first group run with my half marathon training group!

AAAH I’m running a half!!!!

I’m really excited & nervous to get started. There are so many thoughts and fears running through my head. I’m afraid I’ll be the slowest one. I’m afraid that at some point my knee is going to really act up and that I’ll have to drop out. I’m excited to do some real & regular speed work as well as figure out how to do a tempo run. I’m excited to learn about fueling. I’m also really excited to meet more runners and make some new running friends. So I guess there are more things to be excited about than nervous about. I usually run by myself so this will be a new experience.
